Wall moisture and microbial growth in Greenbrier, TN
Southern Shield Restoration investigated cracking and peeling paint in a Greenbrier home. Moisture behind the wall and visible microbial growth beneath the paint led to a plan for containment, air scrubbers, and remediation.

What is visible.
During our investigation, we identified moisture behind the wall and visible microbial growth beneath the paint. The inspection photos show cracking and peeling paint at the wall corner, with dark spotting on the exposed surface. These findings revealed damage beyond the surface finish.

Containment and air scrubbers: planned next steps.
Our team will establish containment around the affected work area and place air scrubbers to help control airborne particles during remediation. We will remediate the affected areas, with the extent of the work guided by the conditions found during assessment.
Addressing the moisture and affected materials.
The remediation plan includes removal of affected materials as needed, cleaning and treatment of exposed surfaces, and assessment of the wall cavity for additional damage. Addressing the moisture source is an essential part of reducing the risk of recurring damage.
Project status: investigation completed; remediation planned. The photographs document the inspection stage.
Can cracking or peeling paint indicate hidden moisture?
Yes. Cracking, bubbling, or peeling paint can be a warning sign of moisture beneath the finish or behind the wall. An inspection helps establish the cause and the extent of affected materials before cosmetic repairs are considered.
